Coppice Forest Monument "Germania
The Niederwald Monument is located at the edge of the Niederwald Landscape Park above the town of Rüdesheim am Rhein. At its feet are the vineyards of the Rüdesheimer Berg. The Niederwald Monument was built on the occasion of the German-French War 1870/1871 and the subsequent foundation of the German Empire on January 18, 1871.
Temple of coppice forest
The lookout temple of the Count of Ostein, which he had built in 1790, was in the past the centre of many spiritual greats of their time. These included Brentano, Beethoven and Goethe. After its destruction in 1944, it was reinaugurated in June 2006 after complete reconstruction and offers its visitors a magnificent view of the Rhine Valley to the south.
Abbey St. Hildegard
The abbey of St. Hildegard is situated in the middle of the vineyards above Rüdesheim. The nuns live according to the Rule of St. Benedict and in the tradition of St. Hildegard. From the monastery mountain you can enjoy the wonderful view over the Middle Rhine Valley. The monastery shop invites you to sophisticated shopping.
Eberbach Monastery
The Cistercians in the Rheingau. In 1136 a group of 13 monks led by Abbot Ruthard moved into the new branch of the Cistercian Order in the Rheingau. The monks arriving here from Clairvaux in Burgundy found a settlement at their new location that had existed for about 20 years, first by Augustinian canons and from 1131 by Benedictines.
Johannisberg Castle
Around 1200 years of winegrowing history are associated with the Johannisberg: an eventful history which, over the centuries, led to the world's first Riesling vineyard and thus to a unique wine culture, which still exists on the Johannisberg today. Founded as a Benedictine monastery, Johannisberg Abbey quickly became the centre and initiator of winegrowing in the Rheingau.
Castle Vollrads
Schloss Vollrads, one of the oldest wineries in the world. Since the 13th century the trade with wine is documented. Today it has received many awards for its top wines and is a popular venue for events.
